Neil 'Razor' Ruddock is an ex-professional footballer who played for clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham, and represented England at international level.
Since retiring, he's appeared on I'm A Celebrity, Big Brother and Masterchef, as well as being a regular voice on the talkSPORT network.
And now, we're delighted to announce that Razor has entered the world of horseracing with the launch of Razor Ruddock Racing.
Owners will have the opportunity to meet Razor at stable visits and on the course when Plus Point runs.
As Razor said: "I've always loved my racing and wanted to find a way to share it with others. That's why we've set up Razor Ruddock Racing! Join us: it's going to be proper good fun".
Watch what happened when Francesca took Razor racing, below!
Introducing Plus Point, a flashy and well-bred 4-year-old filly, now in training with Billy Aprahamian.
She was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale 2024. Having agreed she was the top pick for the job, we were delighted to secure her for the syndicate.
Plus Point is a three time winner from a total of 12 starts on the Flat for previous connections. Given time to develop, she won twice as a three-year-old over 1m2f and 1m4f. She continued this good form in the 2024 season, which included a win at Doncaster over 1m6½f. She has earned over £25,000 in prize money to date and received a highest official BHA handicap mark of 80.
Winning over a variety of distances and on everything from ‘Good’ to ‘Soft’ going, she looks to be a versatile sort, who should take the transition to Jumps racing well and be able to run plenty for her new owners.
Plus Point is by Mastercraftsman, who stood at Coolmore where he produced multiple Group 1 winners, including The Grey Gatsby and Kingston Hill, who have both gone on to produce Black Type performers themselves. Over Jumps, he is the sire of Grade 1 winners Scaramanga and Meltier, along with Master Blueyes, who scored in a Grade 2.
Plus Point is out of Beshayer, who was bought by Al Shaqab Racing for €300,000 as a yearling and won on debut in France. Back in the sales ring as a broodmare prospect, she made 105,000gns to current connections. Her first foal was sold for 100,000gns and runs for Godolphin in Japan and she has one other registered winner in Beset.
Through her dam line, Plus Point is related to Prix De l’Arc de Triumph winner Sottsass, seven-time Group 1 winner Sistercharlie and Shin Emperor, who was placed in the Group 1 Irish Champions Stakes behind Economics and Auguste Rodin.
Plus Point’s damsire needs no introduction. Galileo was a three time Group 1 winner and Champion three-year-old colt, who built on these achievements at stud by becoming Champion sire on 12 occasions.
Billy is delighted to have Plus Point at his yard, noting that “she has shown a really willing and good attitude” and most importantly “the desire to win”. He added that “she’s a solid stamp for a horse off the Flat and looks a very forward four-year-old”, who he thinks will “make a lovely shape over an obstacle”.
The plan is to give Plus Point the nicest possible introduction to National Hunt racing by finding a suitable race over around 2m and at a fair track.
Everything she has done so far suggests that she will be able to get off to a strong start and the thought is that she will do well for further, once she knows the job.
Billy Aprahamian has been surrounded by horses his whole life. Billy managed to ride under rules for six seasons while serving as a commissioned officer in the First Battalion Irish Guards. His greatest achievement in the saddle was winning the Grand Military Gold cup for Nicky Henderson in 2018.
Following his departure from the army, Billy joined the team at Seven Barrows as Assistant Trainer before deciding to set up on his own three years later. He trains from The Gallops, a purpose-built yard in the village of Adstone, and prides himself in the high standards his team upholds. Billy has sent out several winners since having his first runner in March 2022 and is in the midst of his strongest season yet.
There are no other partners in this horse, so once 2600 shares are sold, 100% of the horse will be owned by shareholders.
Razor Ruddock Racing does not charge owners VAT. This means that there is no need to reclaim VAT and that a share represents a greater proportion of the racehorse.
At the end of the syndicate term any unspent funds are returned to owners pro-rata. These funds can be withdrawn or used against the cost of renewing or purchasing a share.
