Kingston James

Introducing Kingston James, a 5-year-old gelding by Kingston Hill and out of Jemima Jay.

The English Point-to-Point scene is getting stronger all the time and this horse is another promising youngster to emerge from it.

Kingston James made light work of his second start, which saw him take a maiden at Great Trethew comfortably in November. A slight peck on landing two out cost him some momentum but he picked up again in fine style to win going away.

While a slowly-run affair, he travelled powerfully and jumped with assurance, displaying plenty of pace. He clearly has an engine and from what has been seen of him so far, he shouldn’t have any trouble starting off at distances of around 2m under rules.

This is backed up by his pedigree. This son of Kingston Hill is a half-brother to three winners, including the prolific Theo who won ten times over the course of his career and reached a peak rating of 142. His two other winning siblings also gained their victories over 2m, in a maiden hurdle and a bumper respectively.

Professional tipster, The Racing Analyst had the following to say about Kingston James: “I think we are dealing with a speedy type who will be best served over trips of around 2.5 miles on decent ground at a galloping track. Fences will no doubt bring out the best in him but plenty of hurdle winners have been produced by the sire and dam, and this lad should be no different.”

Lucinda always has Old Gold Racing’s best interests at heart, she explained “I wanted to try and find a horse that was going to be competitive like Apple has been… and I think Kingston James is a horse that I think has got a lot of ability. He’s definitely got the right attitude. Who knows we might be - in a couple of years time - thinking about the big festivals with him as well!“.

Kingston James has been given plenty of time to settle into the routine at Lucinda Russell Racing and should be ready to run in a NH Flat race or novice hurdle in the spring.
