Introducing Mullins

Old Gold Racing is going Down Under, and we're going in some rather extraordinary company.

For our first venture into Australian racing, we wanted a horse and a team worthy of the occasion. In Mullins, we believe we’ve found both.

Trained by the legendary Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, this striking colt is owned alongside champion trainer Willie Mullins, leading British trainer Hugo Palmer, award-winning broadcaster Nick Luck and a host of other respected racing figures.

And for £325, you can join them.

Welcome to Old Gold Racing Down Under

Meet Mullins

Purchased by Gai and Adrian for A$200,000 at the prestigious Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Mullins is a powerful, athletic colt with strength, presence and a beautifully balanced physique.

By outstanding sire Toronado, out of proven producer Polska, he comes from a family packed with high-class performers. His pedigree offers plenty of promise, and what the team is seeing at home is making the prospect all the more exciting.

Now based at Tulloch Lodge in Sydney, Mullins has impressed with his straightforward attitude and encouraging development. Gai’s enthusiasm says plenty:

“I get really excited when I come across a smooth, cool colt, and this is exactly what he is. He’s very focused in his work, he’s a very good size, and he has wonderful bone and muscle. That’s exactly what we need in Australia.”

That's quite an endorsement from Australia's First Lady of Racing.

More than just a share in a racehorse

This syndicate marks Old Gold Racing’s first venture into Australia, and we want you to feel part of the adventure from the outset.

Owners can follow Mullins’ progress behind the scenes at Tulloch Lodge, with exclusive content and insights from Gai, Adrian and Nick, alongside opportunities to attend special events in Britain and Australia.

Whether you’re dreaming of a trip to Sydney or following every gallop from your kitchen table, you’ll share the experience with fellow owners and some of the most recognisable names in racing.

About Nick Luck

Nick Luck has built a career that spans many of the world’s leading racing and equestrian events. A familiar face to British audiences, he spent 12 years with Channel 4 and anchored the network’s racing coverage from 2010 until 2016. He can now be seen regularly on Racing TV, where he also presents the weekly magazine programme Luck on Sunday.

His international career with NBC Sports began at the 2012 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. He later joined its Kentucky Derby team in 2018 and has reported on the Preakness Stakes, while also co-hosting Royal Ascot since the network first broadcast the meeting in 2017.

Luck’s work has taken him to major fixtures across Australia, Hong Kong and the Middle East, including the Melbourne Cup, Saudi Cup, Bahrain International Trophy and Dubai World Cup. He added equestrian commentary to his portfolio in 2017, covering the Olympic Games, Olympia Horse Show, Badminton Horse Trials and Burghley Horse Trials for the BBC.

A ten-time Horserace Writers’ & Photographers’ Association Broadcaster of the Year, Luck also fronts the award-winning Nick Luck Daily Podcast, noted for its breaking news, interviews and racing analysis. Beyond the microphone, he is a trustee of the National Horseracing Museum and chair of the Godolphin Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards.

About The Trainers

Few training partnerships command the respect of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

The daughter of legendary trainer Tommy J. Smith, Gai Waterhouse spent 15 years learning her craft under her father at Tulloch Lodge. After graduating from University and briefly pursuing a career in acting, she was granted her Australian Jockey Club training licence in 1992 and saddled her first Group 1 winner later that year.

When her father became ill in 1994, Waterhouse took over the famous Tulloch Lodge stable and has since established herself as one of the most successful trainers in Australian racing history. She has trained 145 Group 1 winners, secured seven Sydney trainers’ premierships and, in 2013, became the first Australian woman to train a Melbourne Cup winner when Fiorente landed the Flemington showpiece. Waterhouse was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2007 and is widely known as the “First Lady of Australian Racing.”

Adrian Bott grew up at historic Segenhoe Stud, where an early education among thoroughbreds fostered his ambition to build a career in racing. At just 29 years of age, he was appointed co-trainer alongside Waterhouse in one of the most coveted positions in Australian racing.

The partnership began on 1 August 2016 and produced its first stakes winner only six days later when Thronum won the Listed Rosebud at Randwick. Further success quickly followed through Global Glamour, who captured the Group 1 Flight Stakes before winning the Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield just seven days later.

Share Breakdown

Old Gold Racing own 25% of this horse with partners. This means that once 325 shares have been sold, the syndicate will be full.

Unlike other syndicates, Old Gold Racing does not charge owners VAT. This means that there is no need to reclaim VAT and that a share represents a greater proportion of the racehorse.

At the end of the syndicate term any unspent funds are returned to owners pro-rata. These funds can be withdrawn or used against the cost of renewing or purchasing a share.

TORONADO was unbeaten at two, including the Group 2 Champagne Stakes, before progressing to win the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at three and being crowned Champion Three-Year-Old. At four, he won the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes in a faster time than Frankel. Rated 126 at his peak, he retired to stud in 2015 as the highest-rated miler, initially standing at the National Stud before relocating to Al Shaqab’s Haras de Bouquetot in France. He was also shuttled to Sweetenham Stud in Australia, where his Southern Hemisphere crops produced Group 1 winners including Masked Crusader, Tron Bolt and Mariamia. He moved permanently to Australia in 2022 and has now sired eight individual Group 1 winners and 49 stakes winners worldwide.

POLSKA won two trials as a two-year-old for Gai Waterhouse before being placed multiple times as an older horse. She has made her mark as a broodmare, producing six winners including three Group 2 winners in Zlotties, Catch A Fire and Seaburge, who was also Group 1 placed. She is also the granddam of Group 1-placed Pinito and comes from the family of Group 1 winner Mighty Boss.

She is by ENCOSTA DE LAGO, a two-time Champion Sire in Australia who has also made his mark as a broodmare sire. His daughters have produced stakes winners including Beneteau, Musir and She's Got Gears, while the Toronado/Encosta De Lago cross has already produced Group 1 winner Mariamia.
