How did you get into racing?
I got into racing about a year and a half ago whilst I was still at school. I never really enjoyed school and left early to go into racing full time. It was definitely the best decision for me!
What is Akimos like at home?
Akimos has been my favourite horse in the yard since I joined. He is only ever very clean or very messy, nothing in between (although it’s rarely the former!). He is always a happy chap around the yard, apart from first thing on a morning when I have to muck him out.
Who else do you look after?
Along with Akimos, I also look after Wiseguy, who I took to Cheltenham and the Scottish National this season. I also care for Lelants and an unnamed Poets Word gelding, who is yet to run.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I am aiming to be a Jump jockey (hopefully a good one!), although I could also consider riding on the Flat as I only weigh eight stone. The Jumps are my passion though, and hopefully I will have my first rides in Point-to-Points next season.
What’s the secret to dealing with early mornings?
I have always been fine with getting up early. However, the same cannot be said for Akimos - I have give him a scratch on his neck to win him over.
Horse to follow next season?
Akimos! I would definitely follow him next season… he ran a much improved race last time out at Ffos Las. We almost withdrew him because of the going, but he seemed to relish it. He felt in great form before he headed for his summer break, so I believe he can improve further.
