Shergar Cup 2025: Rider Rundown

With the Shergar Cup taking place on Saturday, here is a rundown of all of the riders taking part:

EUROPE

Per-Anders Graberg (C) – Sweden

Sweden’s long-time champion jockey who has ridden over 2,000 winners and returns for his second Shergar Cup appearance, this time as team captain. He missed much of last season after fracturing his pelvis in three places but made a successful comeback earlier this year. One of the most experienced riders in the weighing room, he’ll be looking to lead from the front.

Dario Di Tocco – Italy

Di Tocco has been the standout rider in Italy over the past two seasons, landing back-to-back champion jockey titles. He gained international attention when steering 40/1 shot Goldenas to victory in the 2023 Group 2 Italian Derby and arrives in top form, fresh from riding five winners in a single meeting at San Siro in July.

Delphine Santiago – France

France’s most successful female jockey, Delphine Santiago has ridden over 700 winners and won the Cravache d’Or for leading female rider 11 times. Based in the south of France, she’s a regular at provincial tracks and has enjoyed Listed success and Group-level experience. This will be her first Shergar Cup appearance, and she arrives with over 30 winners already this season.

ASIA

Suraj Narredu (C) – India

Narredu has ridden over 2,000 winners worldwide and captains the Asia team in his Shergar Cup debut. He comes from one of India’s most successful racing families where his father and uncle both rode in the 2009 edition of the event. Brings international experience and has the benefit of riding in the UK previously.

Mirai Iwata – Japan

Aged 25, Iwata has notched 100 wins across 2022 and 2023 in Japan and broke through at Group 1 level with victory on Arma Veloce in 2024. Currently based in Newmarket with William Haggas and this will be his first time riding at the Shergar Cup.

Ryusei Sakai – Japan

Sakai announced himself on the international stage when guiding Forever Young to win the 2025 Saudi Cup. He’s since gone on to claim Group 1 wins on both turf and dirt and has become a key part of the Yoshito Yahagi team, with regular rides in Japan, Hong Kong, and the Middle East.

REST OF THE WORLD

Karis Teetan (C) – Mauritius

Based in Hong Kong since 2013, Teetan is one of the most consistent riders with over 600 winners to his name. He’s ridden major stars such as Able Friend, Designs On Rome and Romantic Warrior, and has won some of the top races including the Hong Kong Derby and QEII Cup. This will also be his first appearance in the Shergar Cup.

Hugh Bowman – Australia

Bowman is best known for his association with Winx, the champion mare he partnered to 25 Group 1 victories during a record-breaking run in Australia. He has been riding full-time in Hong Kong since 2022 and makes another appearance at the Shergar Cup, having competed in the event previously.

Katie Davis – United States

New York-based rider Katie Davis makes her Shergar Cup debut. She has been riding professionally since 2013 and is a regular on the East Coast circuit, primarily at Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga. She has recorded multiple wins this season and comes from a well-known American racing family.

GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND

Hollie Doyle (C) – Great Britain

Britain’s most successful female jockey, Hollie Doyle became the country’s all-time leading female rider in May 2025 when recording her 1,023rd career winner. She holds six domestic Group 1 wins and made history in 2022 by becoming the first woman to ride the winner of a European Classic.

Robbie Dolan – Ireland

Irish-born Robbie Dolan makes his Shergar Cup debut in 2025 following a headline-making win aboard 90/1 outsider Knight’s Choice in the Melbourne Cup last year, one of the biggest shocks in the race’s history. Now based in Australia, he previously gained mainstream attention for reaching the final stages of The Voice Australia in 2022!

Joanna Mason – Great Britain

Mason turned professional in 2020 after a successful amateur career and rode her first winner under rules at Newcastle that same year. She is the granddaughter of Yorkshire legendary trainer Mick Easterby and is a familiar face on the northern circuit. Has rode in the 2022 Shergar Cup and represented Great Britain again at the International Jockeys Challenge in Saudi Arabia in 2023.
