Jockeys who are at the top of their game!
Sean Bowen continues to ride at the top of his game in his quest for his first Jockeys' Championship after narrowly missing out last year. In recent weeks, he has recorded victories for Olly Murphy and Peter & Michael Bowen, while striking up a prolific partnership with Martin Keighley. He has recorded seven wins from 27 rides, with numerous placed efforts indicating you get a good run for your money when he’s on board. His highest rated winner was the progressive Secret Trix, who has won six races from his last 12 starts.
Jack Tudor has struck up a lethal partnership with David Pipe and Christian Williams, which has led to him riding five winners from 12 starts. He has ridden a number of progressive horses who are well ahead of their current mark, such as Chemical Warfare and Planned Paradise. He is a versatile rider who can produce horses very effectively from off the pace or dictate proceedings from the front. Over the coming days he has some more good chances, with a nice book of rides at Market Rasen and Stratford over the upcoming weekend.
Silvestre De Sousa recorded a double at Thirsk on Wednesday and has regularly showcased his skills since returning from riding in Hong Kong. His recent highlight was claiming Listed honours aboard Al Musmak at Newmarket in the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes. One of my favourite traits of De Sousa is his simplistic nature of his riding, rarely making the wrong decision. An example of this was aboard Coto De Caza at Thirsk, where he used the horses experience to kick clear of his rivals in effortless fashion. The three-time Champion Jockey will be hoping to add more high-level success to his page this weekend, as he gets aboard Sakheer in Group 3 company.
Finally, a jockey who has a fantastic racing brain is Rossa Ryan and he has utilised this for plenty of different trainers over the past two weeks. 11 winners for seven different trainers shows how much support he gets as a rider and highlights the belief connections have in his ability. His feature success came in the Bunbury Cup, where he steered Aalto to victory for Ian Williams. Saturday will see him team back up with Macduff in the BetVictor Stakes at Newbury, before he partners an interesting newcomer in Brave Mission in a Novice Stakes for the same owners, Juddmonte.
