Watch Akimos return to training at Nicky Henderson’s legendary Seven Barrows yard as the exciting Old Gold Racing prospect gears up for the new season.
It’s all systems go across the National Hunt yards, as horses come in from their holidays to their awaiting trainers.
One of those very such horses, is our own Akimos, who has returned to Nicky Henderson at his iconic Seven Barrows stables in Lambourn, and it’s safe to say that Nicky couldn’t be happier with the sight of him.
Akimos joined us after we purchased him from a dispersal sale at Nicky’s yard. Following his first ever run at Newbury Racecourse, both Nicky Henderson and Nico De Boinville were determined that Akimos should remain at the yard, which is where we came in!
Akimos then went on to Uttoxeter, where torrential rain and an ever-changing grounding meant that he had to be pulled up. He then moved on to Ffos Las, where as Nicky mentions in the video, he was running for a handicap mark. Much to everyone’s surprise and delight, Akimos remained with the leading pack until the home straight, where a speedy turn of hoof over the last hurdle saw him win, and grant us our first ever victory with Mr. Henderson.
It might be too soon to dream of Gold Cup’s and big races, but one thing is for sure, and that’s that we’ve got a very exciting horse on our hands.
